Night had not yet fallen on Chavagne Wednesday evening when the helicopter of the gendarmerie invited itself over this town located southwest of Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine). A rather unusual activity that challenged the inhabitants of this rather quiet town. "I understood that they were looking for a man, some neighbors said he was armed," said a resident of the commune. Contacted, the gendarmes confirm that they were indeed looking for two men but who were not a priori armed. In addition to the helicopter, a canine team was hired to find the two men, suspected of having robbed the garage of an individual in Paimpont in the morning.

A car and motorcycles stolen

Leaving at the wheel of a stolen Renault Megane, the two men were first seen in Plélan-le-Grand, before crashing the car in Chavagne. It was there that the gendarmes chased them, flying over the town with the helicopter as the two men tried to flee. "We were able to arrest an individual who was fleeing on foot. He was taken into custody," says Captain Karine Bafoil. The man would be a young adult. The other individual was still at large. According to the gendarmes, the burglary would have taken place on Wednesday, March 30 in the morning at the home of an individual. A car but also several motorcycles had been stolen.

This arrest comes in a context of strong upsurge in burglaries in Ille-et-Vilaine and Brittany. More than 8,000 incidents were recorded in the region in 2022, which is a record.
