President and Mohammed bin Rashid briefed on UAE's preparations to host COP28

President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has affirmed the UAE's keenness to place climate action at the heart of its development strategy aimed at achieving sustainable social and economic growth, while its commitment to its responsibility towards the environment and future generations.

His Highness was briefed by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Chairman of the Supreme National Committee to oversee the preparations for the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change at its twenty-eighth session, COP28. The ongoing preparations for hosting the conference presented by His Excellency Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and President-designate of COP28;

The presentation was also attended by H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court, and H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the National Media Office.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan said that the UAE has embarked on a journey aimed at achieving radical progress and a qualitative leap over the past 50 years, and has been keen to ensure that sustainable development and climate action are an integral part of its strategy aimed at achieving economic growth while adhering to its responsibility towards the environment and future generations.

His Highness stressed that the success of COP28 is an ambitious national project that requires the participation of all state institutions and segments of society.

His Highness called on everyone in the public and private sectors, the scientific and academic communities, and all members of society to play an active role during the preparations for the conference.

For his part, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum stressed that the UAE's approach to climate action is based on providing innovative and practical opportunities to achieve shared prosperity and sustainable development.

His Highness stressed the urgent need to unite the world at COP28 and once again welcome participants from across the planet to continue the UAE's message of 'Connecting Minds, Creating the Future'.

Sheikh Abdullah reiterated that the UAE's location at a global crossroads perfectly qualifies it to build bridges of dialogue and communication between the countries of the world, and to play an active role in achieving tangible progress for a climate-secure world while creating opportunities to promote sustainable economic and social development.

His Highness added that COP28, hosted by the UAE, focuses on leading the global transition from pledges to implementing concrete actions, and cooperating with all stakeholders willing to contribute to working across key pillars to achieve the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement.

Al Jaber provided information on the latest developments on his global tour to listen to and interact with all stakeholders, as well as review the priorities of the agenda of the UAE presidency of the conference, and the latest developments on logistical preparations that focus on inclusion for all.

He also presented a summary of the "Road to COP28" event, which was held at Expo City Dubai on March 15, the first event hosted by the COP28 presidency, to promote youth participation and seek to unite all segments of society on the need to raise awareness of climate change, in addition to mobilizing the efforts of the community in the UAE in preparation for hosting the conference.

More than 3000,<> members of the local community participated in the event, including government officials, foreign diplomats, students, youth climate activists, people of determination, senior citizens, sustainable businesses, and more.

Al Jaber presented the official COP28 wristbands, made of sustainable recyclable material, which bears a set of symbols used in the conference logo, which reflect the relationship between humans, nature, technology and innovation, and represents a true embodiment of the responsibility of the UAE, the host country of the conference, and its keenness to lead an innovative multilateral work system and promote global consensus to provide pioneering solutions, results and climate partnerships.

Referring to what the COP28 bracelet stands for, Dr. Sultan Al Jaber said: "I am honored to present to the leadership the wristbands of the COP28 conference, which express the country's keen approach to building bridges of communication, cooperation, solidarity and unity," stressing that the UAE is always guided by the leadership's directives to face challenges with a positive mindset by foreseeing the future, adding that the country has achieved a qualitative leap and radical progress during the past five decades by focusing on the principle of smart qualitative partnerships, and implementing it in a practical manner.

He pointed out that during the presidency of COP28, we will focus on finding solutions, including everyone and mobilizing the efforts of all 198 parties and all non-party stakeholders to provide pioneering solutions, results and partnerships that contribute to promoting meaningful action and concrete actions across the themes of mitigation, adaptation, climate finance, loss and damage, while ensuring that no one is left behind.

The COP28 logo aims to embody the concept that everyone is inhabitant of "one world", as the design came in a spherical shape in light and dark green colors, and contains a set of diverse symbols related to climate action, such as human and renewable energy technology, and elements of wildlife and nature, all of which are included within the shape of a globe, and these elements together reflect the wealth and potential that humanity possesses of natural resources and technology, and emphasize the need for innovation in all sectors to achieve a qualitative leap in sustainable development. and comprehensive.
