Because of the pension protests, the planned three-day visit to France of the British King Charles III has been postponed. The decision was made after a phone call between President Emmanuel Macron and King Charles, the Elysée said on Friday. The reason was the announcement of another day of protest against the pension reform on Tuesday.

Charles III would later be received in France, "under conditions that correspond to our friendship," the Elysée said. Macron had wanted to invite Charles III, among other things, to a state banquet in the Palace of Versailles. This had been criticised by opponents of the pension reform as inappropriate in view of the social crisis.

Hundreds injured

A train trip to Bordeaux was also planned, where the king wanted to meet organic winegrowers. There, demonstrators had set fire to the portal of the town hall on Friday night.

Protests against the pension reform have become increasingly radical since the law was passed with the help of a constitutional trick. Hundreds of security forces were injured in riots.
