It was in January that three Halmstad residents were sentenced to prison for smuggling at least 69 puppies into the country. The illegal import allegedly took place between May 2019 and November 2020.

With the help of false passports and a systematic use of the rules for pets, the accused persons allegedly smuggled dogs to Sweden for millions.

One woman was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for, among other things, violations of the Animal Welfare Act, unlawful possession of contraband, and aggravated smuggling. One man was also sentenced to two and a half years in prison and the other man was sentenced to two years in prison.

A date for when the case will be heard in the Court of Appeal has not yet been set.
