Two gendarmes of the departmental company of Angers were indicted Wednesday for illegal possession of "several weapons" and ammunition, announced the prosecutor of the Republic of Angers. "They have recognized the alleged facts and are placed under judicial control with prohibition to enter into contact with each other, prohibition to exercise the profession of gendarme and prohibition to possess a weapon," said in his statement the prosecutor Eric Bouillard.

The investigation, initiated by the prosecutor's office after a report from the gendarmerie group of Angers, concerns the "illegal possession of several weapons of category A, B and C as well as ammunition of these categories". "Acts of breach of trust and transfer of weapons are also accused of them," adds the prosecutor, without giving further details on this case.

Category A weapons are certain firearms (category A1) and war material (category A2). "It is forbidden to acquire or possess a weapon classified in category A unless specifically authorized," says the official website service-public.fr. Category B and C weapons are intended for sport shooting and hunting.
