• During his visit to France from March 26, King Charles III and his wife Camilla have planned a stop in Bordeaux.
  • The royal couple was due to arrive on March 28 at noon by train, before taking the tram to the water mirror on the Place de la Bourse.
  • The unions of Keolis, delegate of the transport network, intend to disrupt this program to make their opposition to the pension reform heard.

"On March 28, there will be very important actions, certainly big demonstrations and big blockades," Mathieu Obry, CGT union representative at Keolis, delegate of the public transport network, told 20 Minutes. March 28 is the day of the visit of King Charles III and his wife Camilla, in Bordeaux but also a golden opportunity for opponents of the pension reform to be heard.

The sovereigns will be in France from March 26 and at the beginning of the month Olivier Besancenot, spokesman for the NPA, already announced the color "We will welcome him with a good old general strike," he launched on the set of France Info.

🗣️ "Charles III, we will welcome him with a good old general strike," warned @olbesancenot, spokesman for the NPA. The King of the United Kingdom is expected to visit France on March 26.

A tram ride to the city centre targeted by unions

The monarch should arrive at the Saint-Jean station at noon, according to information from the newspaper Sud Ouest. For the moment, the railway workers have not planned any actions as part of this royal visit. "But it's far away for us on the 28th, we organize the actions day by day, at this moment," says a FO union representative. On the side of the Keolis unions, if we say we are "suspended to the modifications of routes", the one initially planned between the station and the water mirror on board a tram is seriously compromised. "We will make sure that he does not have a tram," warns Mathieu Obry.

At this stage, the authorities have not released details of the royal couple's visit, which may need to be reviewed. According to Sud Ouest, it was normally planned a stroll in the city center and a stop at Baillardran, the manufacturer of cannelés, typical Bordeaux pastries. After an official reception at the town hall, the king and his wife planned to visit the Château Smith Haut-Laffite in Martillac. The British sovereign would also like to go to the scene of the giant fires of summer 2022, in the South Gironde.

Our live on pension reform

At Keolis, the inter-union will adjust its decisions as and when the news and will refrain from disruptions if, by then, the pension reform is withdrawn. If not, she is determined to seize every opportunity to be heard,
