Yemen.. Real progress in the Geneva negotiations, government confirmation of support for the peace process

The Yemeni government renewed its commitment to the option of peace and support for the efforts of the United Nations and regional efforts to end the war, expressing its hope that the Saudi-Iranian rapprochement will constitute a new phase of relations in the countries of the region, including Yemen.

In its last meeting, the Yemeni government indicated that it supports any serious and sincere approach that carries good intentions to achieve security and stability in the region, pointing to its firm belief in dialogue, diplomacy, peaceful means to resolve differences and the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of countries.

This comes in conjunction with the continuation of indirect consultations between the Yemeni parties in the Sultanate of Oman, under the auspices of the United Nations and international mediators, in order to reach a new formula for a long truce that includes clauses leading to the entry into final peace negotiations, as well as the continuation of negotiations for the release of prisoners and abductees between the government delegations and the Houthi militias in Geneva, Switzerland for the seventh consecutive day.

Sources familiar with the Geneva negotiations confirmed that significant progress has been made in order to release large numbers of prisoners, which the two sides had agreed upon in 2018, including the release of 2223,19 prisoners from both sides, including <> foreigners.

The sources pointed out that the current discussions revolve around adding new names to the released, including prominent political and military leaders, noting that the Geneva negotiations are closely linked to the ongoing consultation in the Sultanate of Oman, and are negatively and positively affected by those consultations.

According to sources, any progress that occurs in the Muscat consultations will have a significant impact on the course of the Geneva negotiations, as information confirms that the two sides have reached a semi-final formula for a prolonged truce that includes many humanitarian items, including the release of prisoners, the opening of crossings and roads, the payment of salaries, the opening of Hodeidah ports, the expansion of flights to Sana'a airport, and the expansion of the truce stages to include a complete cessation of escalation and attacks on the battlefronts.

Yemeni sources questioned the militias' commitment to the understandings reached, especially since their elements in the field are still escalating significantly and almost daily, as well as continuing to kidnap and capture many innocent Yemenis in order to achieve immediate interests, including the confiscation of land and property.

In this regard, Yemeni sources confirmed that Houthi leaders have established secret prisons over the past few days to transfer prisoners and abductees to them, as well as the families of new civilians against the background of their refusal to cede their land in Yemeni areas under the control of the Houthis, in an indication that threatens the Geneva negotiations.

On the ground, the Houthi militias confirmed their continued dealings against ships entering Yemeni territorial waters, under the pretext that "they protect attempts to plunder national wealth," in an indirect confirmation of their responsibilities for the piracy that recently affected a Greek ship near the coast of Hodeidah, western Yemen.

The militias confirmed the continued development of their combat capabilities aimed at securing Yemeni waters, "according to them", and that their terrorist elements are ready to carry out operations at sea and land, and acknowledged the implementation of 1831 combat operations during the period of the UN truce.

For his part, a member of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, leader of the National Resistance, Brigadier General Tariq Saleh, stressed the importance of preparing for war, which is the firm way to impose peace, especially with the continued intransigence of the terrorist Houthi militias and their rejection of all efforts aimed at calm.

Brigadier General Tariq stressed the importance of Yemeni cohesion in order to achieve the restoration of the state, and the continued thwarting of the plans of the Houthi militias aimed at penetrating the first lines of defense of the forces on various fronts, praising the heroic epics written by the heroes of the Republic Guards, which led to thwarting the Houthi plan on the western coast, and securing mountainous heights overlooking the city of Al-Barh, west of Taiz.

Brigadier General Tariq visited training camps for the National Resistance and the Republic Guards in western Taiz, and was briefed on the level of readiness, training, rehabilitation and combat readiness to fight the next stage.

In Ibb, local sources confirmed that the militias liquidated the kidnapped activist Hamdi Abdul Razzaq, nicknamed "Al-Makhal", inside one of their prisons in Ibb governorate, and threw his body in a road, months after he surrendered himself to them.
