"In Italy, surrogacy is forbidden and must be called by its name: it is a rented uterus". This was said by the Minister for Family and Equal Opportunities Eugenia Roccella interviewed by Lucia Annunziata on "Mezz'ora in più" on Rai 3. "Now we will make a law - he added - against the uterus for rent".

"In Italy - he added - uterus for rent is forbidden and propaganda is also prohibited. There are even trade fairs in Europe. Today it can cost about 100 thousand euros and women, in countries where it is legal, get 15/20 thousand. It's about whether motherhood can be a market issue."

Referring then to the words of Fabio Rampelli, vice president of the Chamber, yesterday on La7, about "children passed off as their own by gay couples", he said: "Peddling evokes other things, maybe the term is not correct, but the truth is what Rampelli said. Our law says that to be adopted you need a father and a mother."

The journalist Annunziata then challenged the minister a concept of "humanism" that does not provide for parents who are not a mother and a father traditionally understood, altering the reasoning. She then apologized to Roccella at the end of the interview.
