Five people have been indicted, including two incarcerated, in the investigation into the shooting death of a man in July in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, said Saturday a judicial source. A total of nine people were arrested and taken into custody on Monday.

According to Le Parisien, the defendants are suspected of belonging to a "criminal organization". On the evening of July 18, 2022, two men got out of a car on rue Popincourt (XIth) and shot two people sitting on the terrace of a bar, killing one of them.

Nine people arrested

Seven people were arrested in several cities in France by investigators from the criminal brigade of the Paris judicial police or the Central Office for the Fight against Organized Crime (OCLCO). Two others were already in detention in connection with other cases. According to a source close to the case, it is eight men and one woman born between 1996 and 2004.

At the end of their custody, five people were indicted Friday and Saturday in the judicial investigation opened in July for murder and attempted murder with premeditation and organized gang, offenses to the legislation on weapons and criminal association, said the judicial source. Two were imprisoned and three placed under judicial control. The other four have had their custody lifted without charge at this stage, the source added.

A minor, aged 16 at the time and suspected of being one of the perpetrators, was subdued at the scene by witnesses before being arrested by the police. He was indicted, inter alia, for murder and attempted murder by an organized gang, and placed in pre-trial detention. His accomplice had managed to escape. The judicial source was not able to specify if he is among the suspects indicted Friday and Saturday.
