News of the day

Russia receives next Monday China, its main partner, and promises "a new era" in their relations. Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, the Chinese president, have planned to discuss the conflict in Ukraine. After a first tête-à-tête, the leaders will hold more formal negotiations to deepen "their strategic relationship", including military and economic.

This announcement of a meeting between Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin comes the day after a phone call between the heads of Chinese and Ukrainian diplomacy. Qin Gang, China's foreign minister, on Thursday asked Dmytro Kuleba to resume talks between Kiev and Moscow "as soon as possible". "We do not support calls for a ceasefire at this time," Washington replied, criticizing the Chinese initiative.

The phrase of the day

It's nice that the international community has valued our work to help the children of our country, and that we do not leave them in areas of military operations and that we take them out (...) There have been sanctions from all countries (...) But we will continue the work"

These are the words, tinged with irony, pronounced by Maria Lvova-Belova. The Russian Commissioner for Children's Rights is targeted, like Vladimir Putin, by an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court for the alleged deportation of Ukrainian children.

But, despite the legal proceedings, the politician intends to continue her "work". To learn more about the arrest warrant issued against the Russian head of state, it's right here:
