Sameh Shoukry congratulates the UAE on the launch of the "Road to COP28" event

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, current President of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27), congratulated the UAE on the occasion of the launch of the "Road to COP28" event.

Shoukry said in a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM): "I followed with interest the event launched by the United Arab Emirates, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, entitled (The Road to COP28), and its presentation of the vision and objectives of the upcoming UAE presidency of the upcoming climate conference in Dubai, and I am confident that it will contribute to more momentum surrounding climate action issues."

He continued: "I am particularly pleased with the great interest that the UAE vision attaches to the file of empowering youth in the field of climate action, and enhancing their engagement with this fateful issue, which is something that the Egyptian presidency of the Climate Conference paid special attention to last year, as it appointed the first Youth and Climate Envoy, hosted the first youth pavilion in the history of the conference, held the first Youth Climate Forum, and supported opportunities for more youth participation at the level of final outputs and practice."

The Egyptian Foreign Minister added: "I take the opportunity of this important event to congratulate the brothers and sisters of the sisterly UAE for the effort made in preparing to host the next climate conference, and I reaffirm my support and the support of the Egyptian government for the UAE in its readiness to assume this great global responsibility at a time when the climate crisis facing our planet is intensifying, and I welcome the close coordination and continuous dialogue with my brother, His Excellency Dr. Sultan Al-Jaber, President-designate of COP28 and his team, to ensure that we build on the important results achieved. And pivotal in the Sharm el-Sheikh conference and paving the way for more ambitious and influential results during the UAE conference later this year."
