North Korea launches two ballistic missiles

North Korea announced at dawn today that it had launched two tactical surface-to-surface ballistic missiles in the Dhangyeon area of South Hwanghae Province.

"The Korean army's missile unit, which is responsible for important operational tasks on the western front, conducted a missile launch demonstration exercise to train the division's units on March 14," KCNA reported.

The agency added that the eleventh "Firepower Attack Company" of the military unit participated in the exercise and that a demonstration was carried out with two surface-to-surface ballistic missiles.

In images released by North Korea, the KN-23 (the North Korean version of Iskander) was launched from the Mobile Wheeled Launch Vehicle (TEL).

The Korean Central News Agency said the missile was launched from Jangyeon district of South Hwanghae Province and hit the target island 611.4 km away.
