UAE launches Manara Center to spread the values of coexistence in the region

The United Arab Emirates today announced the establishment of the Abu Dhabi-based Manara Regional Centre for Coexistence, which bears the Arabic word for the source of light for those coming from afar.

The centre will support the UAE's major values and initiatives related to tolerance, coexistence and the Abrahamic Family House.

Manara Center was established with the Anti-Defamation League as a key partner to collaborate in the implementation of educational and cultural programs that will include establishing relationships with universities across the Middle East and Southeast Asia, to promote peace and prosperity by spreading the values and culture of coexistence through customized training courses for university students and young learners.

In a statement on the occasion of the inauguration, Dr. Ali Al-Nuaimi, Chairman of Manara Center, said: "We are pleased to partner with the Anti-Defamation League, one of the best organizations in the world to promote peace, dispel stereotypes, and bring people from all backgrounds together.

The Center will have a founding Board of Directors consisting of leading experts from around the world who have deep experience in its fields, and the Manara Center will be led by Dr. Ali Al-Nuaimi, who will serve as Chairman of the Board of Directors; Dr. Al-Nuaimi is a leading global figure in countering extremism and promoting inclusion, and Jonathan Greenblatt represents the Anti-Defamation League on the Board of Directors.

Greenblatt said: "The Anti-Defamation League has 100 years of experience in combating the roots of anti-Semitism and hatred in all its forms, and we are honored that the Association is the main partner in providing educational and educational programs, noting that the Manara Center comes as a continuation of progress towards peace and coexistence in the Middle East, building on historical achievements in the region, and expressed his aspiration to continue working to unite peoples in innovative ways in the coming years.

The Association will work closely with the Center's experts to develop and disseminate comprehensive and tested programs to promote coexistence such as:
• Develop educational materials aimed at promoting acceptance of the other.
• Involve students from universities in the Middle East and Southeast Asia in conferences in the region, and enable them to visit international educational institutions.
• Direct community partnerships "People to people" focused on university students.
• Research reports with comprehensive data and guides to best practices.
• Hosting annual high-profile competitions to present final performances in Dubai.

Yousef Mana Al Otaiba, UAE Ambassador to the United States, said: "This center will be a model for the region and is a reflection of the values shared by the UAE and the United States, including a commitment to promoting peace and coexistence, and creating opportunities for the region's youth.

The first educational programs are scheduled to begin in August 2023.
