• LANGUAGE The Generalitat intensifies its offensive in Health: "Do you speak Catalan or Spanish to patients?"

The Generalitat intends to put down the rebellion of the Andalusian nurse who cried out against the requirement to prove knowledge of Catalan to obtain a position in the Catalan health system.

And not only filing it, but increasing the linguistic pressure on health professionals from other autonomous communities.

The Government has agreed this Tuesday to multiply by ten the "language awareness sessions" for medical residents from outside Catalonia.

The courses offered by the Consortium for Linguistic Normalization for these toilets will go from 30 to 300.

In addition, the Executive led by

Pere Aragonès

will reward medical professionals who obtain the C1 level of Catalan - the one that allows them to take part in competitive examinations and was harshly criticized by the Cádiz nurse - with an official degree: until now only proficiency in the language was certified autonomous, but a title was not issued for those who passed the test.

The Generalitat will also multiply by ten - going from 400 to 4,500 - the places to take the C2 level Catalan course, which will end up being required of all civil servants and which is currently only recommended.

These measures were approved after the institutional lynching of the Andalusian nurse, but they are part of a plan approved in November by the Government to further increase the presence of Catalan in the entire public sphere.

This project also includes the creation of a kind of linguistic commissariats in each health center to ensure the general use of Catalan in patient care.
