The President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella began his visit to Kenya this morning by meeting President William Ruto in Nairobi. "Kenya is a virtuous example of democracy and social and economic growth," Mattarella said in statements to the press, after the meeting with the president of Kenya. "Kenya is a pillar of stability in this area of the world. The Pretoria agreements are the result of Kenya's decisive contribution to achieving a condition of serenity in Ethiopia", explained the President.

"Italy has strongly supported Kenya's presence in the UN Security Council, which has been very successful," he added.

"Kenya appreciates Italy's commitment to support our efforts to restore peace and security in the region, in Ethiopia, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Somalia": said the Kenyan president at the press conference held at the end of the meeting in Nairobi with President Sergio Mattarella.

The President of the Republic also addressed the climate crisis. "There is no more time: the fight against climate change must start immediately", he also recalled about the issue of drought that is a national problem in Kenya. "The theme is central and there is no second half," he added.

"This is an issue, that of drought, which derives from climate change and which is creating enormous difficulties. Drought creates a food crisis that further pushes migratory phenomena. The theme is central. We are also feeling drought in Europe. There is a general condition in the world that leads to real awareness. It is in the government's program to commit itself against climate change and Italy has long felt the need for a serious and concrete commitment. We regret that some countries want to postpone the problem to a later time that does not exist".
