During a speech in Washington, he said that "many believe" that, given the ongoing events, Russia's presence in the IAEA "should be curtailed."

According to Grossi, "some have gone to extremes" by suggesting that Russia be expelled from the organization.

“This is an international organization, and there are procedures in it, according to which I cannot independently decide on the exclusion of a country from policy-making bodies or other instances,” TASS quoted him as saying.

Earlier, the IAEA Board of Governors appointed Grossi as the agency's director general for a second term.
