Russian agency "Sputnik": Iranian-Bahraini talks on the resumption of relations soon

Informed sources revealed that important talks are currently taking place between Bahrain and Iran at a bilateral level in order to restore relations between the two countries.

According to the sources, the consultations between the two countries so far are at the bilateral level without mediation by other parties so far, and the results are expected to be announced soon if all the contentious issues being discussed are agreed upon.

Sputnik spoke with Bahraini parliamentarian Mamdouh Al-Saleh about the findings of consultations between his country and Iran, or the nature of the committees formed (according to the sources), but he stressed that the Iranian parliamentary delegation that visited the Kingdom today, expressed its desire to open more horizons of cooperation with Bahrain, while the Bahraini side confirmed the same desire.

The parliamentarian said that "initiatives in the near future are looking to resolve the outstanding and thorny files between the two countries."

He pointed out that Bahrain has always called for non-interference in the internal affairs of any Arab country as well as with regard to its internal affairs, in connection with King Hamad bin Isa's interest in the stability of the region and the establishment of peace and security.

In response to Sputnik's inquiry about the stage reached by the consultations between the two countries, Al-Saleh said, "I can confirm that there are good efforts to restore relations, and there is no doubt that soon there will be positive results."

He pointed to the ability of Bahrain and Iran to lead the negotiations directly without the need for third parties.

According to al-Saleh, his country's priority is its relationship with neighbors to be based on brotherhood and a commitment to non-interference in internal affairs at the national and Arab levels. In addition, Bahrain is interested in reopening its embassy in Iran and restoring airlines between the two countries, after discussing all issues between the two countries.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said at his weekly press conference on Monday, "Fortunately, with the positive atmosphere we see in the region, this positive development can happen with other countries in the region, including Bahrain."

Kanaani added that "this important diplomatic development can have positive effects and results in regional relations between countries located in this common geography," explaining that "relations between Iran and Bahrain are no exception to this principle."
