A 57-year-old childminder was sentenced by the Val-d'Oise Criminal Court on Friday. She was convicted of intentional violence resulting in the death without intent of a 15-year-old minor. The victim is an 11-month-old boy in her care, reports Le Parisien. Victim of shaken baby syndrome, he died in June 2012 in Gonesse.

The fifty-year-old has never admitted the facts of violence. She only claimed to have shaken the child gently to try to wake him up because he appeared lifeless after his nap. But the investigation determined that the baby had been shaken twice, two weeks before his death and between 24 and 48 hours before.

Several facts were also blamed on the childminder by other parents. During the trial, they mentioned suspicions of ill-treatment. Sentenced to seven years' imprisonment, the defendant is now prohibited from engaging in any activity in contact with minors.
