Today, Monday, a European delegation called on Israel to reverse decisions to evacuate Palestinian families from their homes in Sheikh Jarrah, Silwan and the Old City in East Jerusalem.

This came in a statement read by one of the delegation's diplomats at the end of a visit they made to East Jerusalem, during which they met the families of Salem, Dajani, Daoudi and Hammad in Sheikh Jarrah.

During the visit, Palestinian families gave the European delegation an explanation of the difficult conditions they have been living in for years, following repeated demands by Israeli settlement groups to vacate their homes.

European diplomats said that we are meeting here with Palestinian families facing imminent forced eviction from their homes, "and we are here to call on the Israeli government to reverse its eviction decisions."

They added that this month alone, 6 Palestinian families in Silwan, Sheikh Jarrah and the Old City are facing imminent forced eviction, as Israeli settlement groups stand behind the eviction decisions, "and this means that 80 people are under imminent danger of eviction."

The "Sub Laban" family is facing an order to vacate their home in Aqabat al-Khalidiyah in the Old City next Wednesday. As for the families of Dajani, Daoudi and Hammad, the Israeli Supreme Court is considering a request by settler groups to expel them from their homes on March 29.

While on the ninth of last March, an Israeli court postponed consideration of the request to evict the "Salem" family from their home indefinitely, but the Israeli municipality in Jerusalem informed the family today of its decision to demolish a room in their house within 21 days, on the grounds of unauthorized construction.

The delegation also affirmed its opposition to the Israeli settlement policy, considering it illegal under international law.

He also stressed that the continuation of this policy increases tensions, and this falls within the framework of the escalation of violence in the West Bank more broadly.

He also warned that these policies undermine the chances of a two-state solution.

The statement did not mention the signatory countries.

In the past years, the Israeli authorities have escalated the settlement, eviction and demolition decisions of Palestinian homes in East Jerusalem.
