The Salvation Front in Tunisia condemned the recent raids by the authorities, and held President Kais Saied and the authorities responsible for the safety of the detainees. It also refused to recognize the new parliament, affirming its adherence to the 2014 constitution.

The Front said - in a statement it posted on its Facebook page - that it strongly condemns the campaigns of continuous raids, fabrication of charges and abuse of political prisoners.

It held the president and those in charge of justice and the interior ministry responsible for the safety of the detainees, especially those who are on hunger strike.

It also denounced the dissolution of all municipal councils elected in 2018, a few months before the end of their duties, stressing its lack of recognition of the new parliament, which emerged from what it called the "illegitimate coup constitution", and its adherence to the 2014 constitution.

The Tunisian president had announced the dissolution of municipal councils and their replacement with temporary management bodies, while the General League (Assembly) of Municipalities in Tunisia considered the decision to dissolve municipal councils shortly before the end of their legal term a violation of the law.

Lawyers reported that 3 leaders in the Tunisian opposition began, on Friday, a hunger strike to protest what they described as "abuse" by the authorities in prison.

The security forces arrested these opponents about two weeks ago and charged them with "conspiracy against state security," while lawyers and politicians said they were arrested because of meetings aimed at uniting the opposition.

The campaign of arrests affected many politicians, especially from the National Salvation Front and the Ennahda Movement. In parallel, the authorities referred trade unionists to trial.

In the context, the National Association of Tunisian Lawyers announced on Friday the formation of a defense committee for the lawyers included in the prosecution in all files.

Tunisian opposition forces accuse President Qais Saeed of establishing an authoritarian regime and suppressing freedoms, but Saeed denies this and has repeatedly pledged to hold accountable those he says have committed crimes against the country.
