Sudani: The Iraqi government is about to call for a regional conference in Baghdad

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani revealed on Sunday his government's intention to call for a "regional conference in Baghdad soon to enhance cooperation and joint coordination, and the exchange of experiences and programs among the countries of the region in the face of climate impacts."

Al-Sudani said, during the opening of the Iraq Climate Conference in Basra Governorate with international, regional and governmental participation, which lasts two days, that "the government is proceeding with its program, which gave special importance to addressing the effects of climate change, and has developed several treatments to mitigate the economic, environmental and social effects that accompany change."

He called for the importance of following up on everything related to the implementation of the Iraqi vision for climate action, in particular, clean and renewable energy projects, and efforts to preserve Iraq's rights to the waters of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.

He explained that the Iraq Climate Conference came to establish a new phase to confront the severe effects of climate change on Iraq, because climate changes, represented by high temperatures, scarcity of rain, increase in dust storms, and lack of green spaces, threatened food, health, environmental and community security.
