The third national conference of the Alliance for Solidarity in Mali (Asma), the party of former Malian Prime Minister

Soumeylou Boubeye Maïga

, who died in detention on March 21, 2022, ended this Sunday in Bamako.

During the closing ceremony, one of the speakers publicly declared that he had in fact been "

murdered

" after having, a few days earlier, spoken out to describe the death of Soumeylou Boubeye Maïga as a "

judicial tragedy

".

This speaker is Cheick Mohamed Chérif Koné, the former first general counsel of the Supreme Court, an institution which had indicted the former Prime Minister in August 2021 for "attacks

on public property by embezzlement

" in a case of purchases of military equipment.

For the first time, he explains to a local colleague, Joliba TV and to RFI, what he calls “

the underside of the affair

 ”: “

Soumeylou Boubeye has expressed his wish to see the transition end on date.

He was targeted.

The supporters of the transition wanted something else.

They wanted an endless transition.

Having since landed his post at the Supreme Court, magistrate Koné, now general coordinator of a vast political movement that stands up against the military in power, adds: "

Contrary to what the regime thought, I don't wasn't there to defend their position.

It is the first two officials of the Supreme Court who are at the root of this legal tragedy.

Imprisoned, the health of the former Prime Minister rapidly deteriorated, he died on March 21, 2022 in a clinic in Bamako.

The authorities, despite the favorable opinion of the doctors, did not accept his evacuation outside.
