“With the assistance of Maria Lvova-Belova, 56 Russian children aged three to 17 returned to their homeland.

49 of them were on the territory of refugee camps in the Trans-Euphrates and seven more were in a shelter in Damascus, ”the source of RT explained, specifying that the aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces delivered the children from the Syrian Arab Republic, which arrived at the Chkalovsky airfield near Moscow on March 12.

During the flight, the children, whose parents had previously been in the Syrian conflict zone for various reasons and were unable to save their families, were accompanied by doctors, psychologists and employees of the Office of the Commissioner for Children's Rights under the President of Russia.

On the way, doctors examined the children - their health does not cause concern.

Upon arrival, the whole group will go to one of the capital's medical centers, and then for several weeks to a Moscow social rehabilitation center.

Work on the repatriation of Russian children from the zones of military conflicts has been carried out on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin since 2018.

The activities of the relevant interdepartmental commission are coordinated by the Children's Ombudsman.

Since December 2018, more than 400 children have been returned to the territory of the Russian Federation from the zones of armed conflicts in the Middle East.

All of them have been placed under the care of families of relatives.

The press service of the commissioner also added that during her visit to Syria on March 10-12, Lvova-Belova handed over to the Syrian side 450 kg of humanitarian cargo for families with children affected by the recent earthquake and for orphanages.
