China News Agency reporter Chen Su Li Xiaoyu

From a rural woman to a "thumb writer", Ma Huijuan is most concerned about her status as a deputy to the National People's Congress.

She said that she hopes to keep the "roots" of the countryside by performing her duties responsibly.

"Old representatives" who have served for many years

After being elected as a deputy to the National People's Congress for the first time in 2018, Ma Huijuan will once again enter the Great Hall of the People in this capacity in 2023.

Talking about her six-year performance experience, Ma Huijuan is most impressed by the full coverage of people's democracy in the whole process of China. Democracy is being integrated into the people's daily life and every specific matter.

For example, she said that many issues in the village that are closely related to personal interests, such as whether villagers can meet the standard of subsistence allowances, etc., need to be decided by villagers' representatives at a meeting, rather than village cadres.

She said that the development of people's democracy in the whole process is to reflect the will of the people, protect the rights and interests of the people, and stimulate the creative vitality of the people. Require.

The representative from Huangdi hopes that "we can do better in the future".

She told a reporter from China News Agency that she will demand herself with higher standards and better perform her duties.

"I will pick up my pen and record the feelings of performing my duties in the past few years, so as to better understand the work of deputies to the National People's Congress and better take on this important task."

A "thumb writer" who came out of the mountain village

Another well-known identity of Ma Huijuan is "thumb writer".

With only a junior high school education, she broke 13 mobile phones in 10 years, and typed millions of words on the mobile phone with her thumb, recording the joys and sorrows of rural women and the struggle stories on the yellow land, hence the name "Thumb Writer" .

Ma Huijuan's writing career has not been smooth sailing.

She was born in 1980 in a small mountain village called Heiyanwan in Jingyuan County, Guyuan City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. This village belongs to the Xihaigu area on the Loess Plateau.

Since 2000, more than 20 households in Heiyanwan Village have moved to Hongsibao District, Wuzhong City, Ningxia. Ma Huijuan, who loved reading since she was a child, began to try writing, and gradually created a large number of essays, essays and diaries with her mobile phone.

In her words, "It was difficult for me to get out of the mountains, but the immigration and relocation policy has brought about tremendous changes in my living environment and my whole life."

As a peasant writer, Ma Huijuan also used words to vividly show the experience of immigrants and relocation.

Her work "Out of Black Eye Bay" reflects the changes brought about by immigrant relocation.

Follower and recorder of immigrant culture

After leaving the mountains, Ma Huijuan has always been thinking about how immigrants can obtain a better life and how to strengthen the protection of immigrant culture.

In her opinion, ancient immigrants were mainly forced to relocate due to famine, war, etc., but today immigration is one of the ways to improve life and completely solve poverty.

During the National Two Sessions last year, Ma Huijuan suggested that relevant departments support Hongsibao District in creating a national demonstration zone for ex situ relocation, relocation, immigration and wealth promotion, hoping to promote the successful experience of Hongsibao District on a wider level.

This year, she continued to pay attention to the protection of immigrant culture, and suggested that Hongsibao District should be built as a base for immigrant culture and education.

Ma Huijuan also revealed that the novel she just finished is to look at Ningxia's "Diaozhuang immigrant" culture from the perspective of children, recording the changes in the village and the growth experience of the children.

Rural culture is also one of the focuses of Ma Huijuan.

She once suggested improving the construction of local cultural venues and facilities, and strengthening the team of grassroots cultural coordinators.

"Culture is the 'root' of the countryside, and culture is also the 'soft power' of rural construction." Ma Huijuan believes that as the material foundation of the countryside reaches a certain level, more attention should be paid to cultural construction, which is crucial to the sustainable development of the countryside.
