Amid rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has ordered military maneuvers for a "real war." Kim had supervised a maneuver together with his daughter, the state news agency KCNA reported on Friday. Photos published at the same time show how several missiles are fired during the maneuver on Thursday.

Kim told the soldiers involved in the exercise that they should conduct "various simulation exercises for a real war" and constantly intensify them, KCNA said.

The conflict on the Korean peninsula has become more virulent again in recent weeks. North Korea recently accused the US of "deliberately" increasing tensions in the region through joint military exercises with South Korea. Seoul and Washington plan to launch a ten-day joint military exercise on Monday – the largest joint exercise in five years.

In February, North Korea carried out three missile tests within a few days, including with an intercontinental ballistic missile. In November, Kim announced that he wanted to make his country the "strongest nuclear power in the world".
