A week after the tragedy, the investigation is progressing. A 51-year-old man, suspected of having killed with a knife his ex-companion in the Sarthe, was indicted Thursday in Le Mans for murder and imprisoned, we learned from the prosecutor's office. This fifty-year-old was indicted "on the charge of voluntary homicide, with premeditation, and on the person of a spouse," said in a statement the prosecutor of the Republic of Le Mans, Delphine Dewailly.

The victim, aged 50, was found dead on March 3 at his home in Coulans-sur-Gée, a town west of Le Mans. The autopsy showed that she had been stabbed several times, "in the neck, heart, abdomen," according to Delphine Dewailly.

No facts reported to the gendarmerie

The investigation conducted by the gendarmerie and scientific analyses had "quickly led to consider the involvement of this man in the death", she explains, stressing that "serious and concordant evidence" exists against the accused. "Childhood friend of the victim, the person concerned had reconnected for a few years with it, and shared his daily life between Coulans-sur-Gée and the home of his ex-wife, from whom he was divorced," says Delphine Dewailly.

"It seems that a final separation decision had just been taken" between the victim and the suspect, who "remains evasive" about the motives and circumstances of this femicide. The victim's entourage had not noticed any violence within the couple and the latter had not reported such facts to the gendarmerie either. The respondent has no criminal record, adds the prosecutor.
