The board for national highly specialized care has decided that care for gender dysphoria must be based on three national units in collaboration with three other units.

The three units that will conduct national care are the Stockholm Region, the Östergötland Region and the Västra Götaland Region.

They will in turn cooperate with Region Västerbotten, Region Skåne and Region Uppsala.

- The goal is more equal care, greater patient benefit and guaranteed availability, says the head of unit at the National Board of Health and Welfare, Kristina Wikner, in a press release.

With the decision, it is clear that the gender identity clinic in Umeå will remain and continue to operate.
