China News Agency, Jakarta, March 9th (Reporter Lin Yongchuan) As of the afternoon of the 9th, a landslide in the Riau Islands province in western Indonesia has killed 30 people and 24 others are missing. Search and rescue work is underway.

  According to a report by Indonesia's official Antara News Agency on the evening of the 9th, a joint search and rescue team composed of the army, police, search and rescue bureau and volunteers found nine more bodies of victims at the scene of the incident that day. 30 people, and 24 missing are still being searched.

  After the incident, Suhari Yanto, director of the Indonesian National Disaster Relief Agency, who went to the scene from Jakarta to direct the search and rescue work, said that the severe rainy weather on the island where the incident occurred affected the search and rescue work process.

He revealed that the Disaster Resilience Agency and the Search and Rescue Bureau are discussing with the Indonesian Air Force and local governments, or adopt artificial weather modification techniques to minimize the impact of rainfall on search and rescue work.

  On March 6 local time, a landslide buried a village in Serasan, Riau Islands Province, Indonesia due to heavy rainfall. More than 20 villagers' houses were destroyed, and more than 1,300 villagers were evacuated to temporary resettlement sites.
