With the government's solution to the
issue of forced mobilization, there is speculation that a summit between South Korea and Japan will take place within this month, and at the end of next month, President Yoon Seok-yeol will travel to the United States for a ROK-US summit. This is the first time in 12 years that our president has paid a state visit to the United States.

President
Yoon Seok-yeol will hold a summit with President Biden in Washington on 26 May to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the U.S.-ROK alliance, the President's Office and the White House have announced.

This is the first state visit in 12 years and the third U.S.-ROK summit since President Yun took office.

[Eunhye Kim/PR Chief: We expect to be able to implement an action-taking ROK-U.S. alliance that protects the lives and safety of the people of both countries, safeguards core values, and moves forward into the future.]

The key agenda is measures to strengthen extended deterrence in response to North Korea's nuclear and missile provocations.

A senior official in the Office of the President explained, "We are asking the United States to participate and institutionalize the United States' nuclear capabilities, execution, planning, and other processes."

Participation in the working group of the Quad, a four-nation consultative body that checks China, is also expected to be discussed, and a senior government official said, "I think we should accelerate active participation in the Quad working group."

There are also many challenges in the economic field.

The main challenges are how to protect our corporate interests in the implementation of the U.S. Semiconductor Support Act, which imposes tough conditions such as allowing access to facilities, sharing excess profits, and prohibiting investment in China, as well as how to respond to the Inflation Reduction Act, which subsidizes only finally assembled electric vehicles in North America, and IRAs.

Prior to his visit to the United States, exchanges between the heads of state of the three countries are accelerating after the announcement of the forced mobilization solution, such as the possibility of a ROK-Japan summit meeting as early as next week.
