His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, made contact with Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi, who arrived on March 6 with the <>-crew mission team to the International Space Station aboard the SpaceX Dragon Endeavour spacecraft, for the longest mission in Arab history, spanning six months.
His Highness said in a tweet on «Twitter»: «During my call today with Sultan Al Neyadi.. The first Arab astronaut on a six-month long mission on the International Space Station... Sultan opens new doors for our youth. And raise the ceiling for the ambitions of our generations. It represents a bright part of our future."
During his visit to the headquarters of the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre in Dubai yesterday, His Highness congratulated Al Neyadi on his safe arrival to the International Space Station, praising the global position reached by the people of the UAE and the glory they have achieved in the spaces of the impossible.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum stressed that the UAE has reserved its seat in space with the achievements of its sons, which are the fruits of the continuous work of many work teams and an unremitting effort that did not stop for a moment, starting since the establishment of the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre, the establishment of the UAE Space Agency, the launch of the UAE Space Strategy and many programs to qualify Emirati astronauts in the science and space sector, but the biggest ambition had begun since the seventies. Zayed's dream and ambition to explore space and dig the name of the UAE not on earth but high in the sky.
His Highness said that the Arab region is in dire need of an inspiring model for the development of scientific capabilities, and the son of the UAE proudly presented this model not only to the region but to the world, and today he is fulfilling the dreams of his Arab brothers.
His Highness addressed Al Neyadi during the call that took place at the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre, where His Highness said: "Your arrival to the International Space Station on the longest mission in the history of the Arabs is a pride for all of us, and an incentive for those who follow you from Emirati, Arab and international youth. I say and affirm that there is no impossible for the people of the UAE and our will works miracles."
His Highness was briefed on the details of the mission and scientific experiments that will be carried out by astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi at the International Space Station, while Al Neyadi reviewed some of the experiments he carried out since his arrival at the station, explaining that the scientific program is proceeding as planned and that his presence with other astronauts is a continuous journey of learning that he will transfer to his colleagues and peers from the youth upon his return to Earth, pointing out that the mission team has carried out many scientific research and experiments since the first day in which it participates. The UAE is with all international space research agencies and centers, some of which bear an Emirati imprint, especially in the field of studying the impact of zero gravity on the human body and working to avoid its risks in the future.
His Highness said: "We launched 50 years ago from the desert without capabilities and today our flag is flying in space and around Mars, we wrote the beginning with your brother astronaut Hazza Al Mansouri in 2019, and today we continue to build national competencies in the space sector, and write renewed chapters in our exceptional story."
His Highness explained that the UAE has a comprehensive transcontinental development message in creating a new reality for the region and a future full of achievements, which begins with education, sharing knowledge and expertise in vital sectors, and harnessing technology and capabilities to create new opportunities and invest them for the benefit of the scientific community.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said: "The Emirati dream does not accept retreat or idleness. Every dream we have we follow with a bigger dream that is out of expectations and ahead of the norm. Space has opened its doors for us, and the people of the UAE are actively contributing to the scientific renaissance and global knowledge."
In the presence of Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Managing Director of Dubai Future Foundation, Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Vice Chairman of the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre, Lieutenant General Talal Belhoul Al Falasi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre, Hamad Al Mansoori, and Director General of the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre, Salem Humaid Al Marri, His Highness listened to astronaut Hazza Al Mansouri on the details of the mission (Ambition of Zayed 2) and the research and experiments that will be carried out by members of the 6-crew team over a period of six months on Al Mansoori was the first Emirati astronaut to reach the International Space Station as part of the UAE Astronaut Program supervised by the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre.
At the end of the call, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum wished Al Neyadi sincere success in his mission, calling on God Almighty to protect him and the mission team, and to achieve the objectives of the scientific program and return safely to the homeland.
For his part, astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi expressed his thanks and deep gratitude for the support and follow-up of the leadership at all stages of the mission, and its keenness to qualify a promising generation of Emirati youth armed with science and participate in the global development process.
