Pedestrians risk their lives by blocking highways in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi Police recently spotted, through cameras and traffic control devices, pedestrians risking their lives, by blocking roads, recklessly, and without places designated for their crossing, while others insisted on crossing roads through pedestrian lines at intersections, but in light of the opening of the red light, which exposes them to the risk of being run over.

Abu Dhabi Police warned of the dangers of pedestrians crossing roads other than designated places, warning that the Federal Traffic Law violates "pedestrians' failure to abide by traffic signals" and "crossing the road from places other than designated for their crossing", which is fined 400 dirhams.

The law also violates drivers and pedestrians in the event of "not giving priority to pedestrians in the places designated for their crossing" with a value of 500 dirhams and 6 traffic points.

Abu Dhabi Police recently launched an awareness campaign to enhance the safety of pedestrians and drivers and raise awareness of vehicular accidents in conjunction with the launch of the Gulf Traffic Week under the slogan "Your Life is a Trust", which lasts for a month, as part of its strategic priorities to enhance road security and raise the level of traffic culture.

The Acting Director of the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, Brigadier General Mahmoud Yousef Al Balushi, stressed the interest of Abu Dhabi Police in implementing field campaigns that contribute to training pedestrians in the field on safe crossing of the road, adhering to pedestrian traffic lights that work in sync with traffic signals, and distributing awareness booklets on how to safely cross the road.

He pointed out that the campaign includes messages to urge pedestrians and drivers to abide by the traffic law, and field awareness, and targets all segments of society of all nationalities, and uses Arabic, English and Urdu.

Al Balushi pointed out that efforts continue in coordination with the Department of Municipalities and Transport - Abu Dhabi to improve the traffic safety conditions for pedestrians, pointing out that the most prominent results achieved in this aspect were the construction of bridges on internal and external roads, improving pedestrian crossings, providing surface corridors controlled by traffic signals and closing gaps in road fences to enhance public safety.

He stated that the campaign includes the distribution of leaflets in the three languages to raise awareness of the instructions for crossing pedestrian lines and the correct places to cross, which are tunnels, bridges and pedestrian lines, in addition to broadcasting awareness videos for pedestrian violations, and the plan includes the dissemination of many awareness messages in the print, audio and visual media, social media platforms and holding field awareness lectures.

The Traffic and Patrols Directorate, the Community Police Department, the Security Media Department, the Musaffah District Police Station and the Safe City Center are participating in the implementation of the campaign.
