A video clip circulating on American platforms documented a horrific scene of a young man setting himself on fire near the University of California, Berkeley, amid attempts by passers-by to extinguish the fire and rescue him.

The video, posted by a bystander on Twitter, showed a number of those around him trying to spray water on him and throwing him with pieces of the clothes they were wearing in an attempt to save him, but one of them threw a bicycle he was riding on, in a strange scene.

For its part, the police announced in a statement that last Wednesday evening the University of California Police Department received reports of a person on fire.

Officers arrived at the scene to provide assistance and secure the area. The Berkeley Fire Department responded and immediately transported the person to a local hospital.

Others worked to provide assistance and put out the fire.

In its statement, the police also indicated that the incident is under investigation, and the person's identity and condition are unknown at the present time, calling on the public to provide information on the matter.

In turn, local media reported that the man, who was estimated to be in his twenties, sustained serious injuries and burns of the second and third degrees, and a passerby in her forties sustained minor injuries, in addition to a third who was also slightly injured.

Activists interacted with the video, which was widely circulated, with more than 18 million views within two days of its publication, amid a state of denunciation and mockery of the "cycling ambulance" scene.

You know the joke of one who was burned and wounded by the bone section….

They asked him when he was coming to the orthopedic department. He replied, “float me with iron boards 🤣🤣🤣

Now the joke has become reality

"We've gotten to the point where a student at the University of California, one of the most prestigious universities in the world, thinks the appropriate thing to do is to throw a bike at a guy who set himself on fire. Do you think all of this will solve the problem?" one wrote.
