On February 24, 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine.

Since the start of the clashes, the Cartooning for Peace association has collected hundreds of press cartoons that alert us and denounce the situation.

It publishes them in a book in partnership with Amnesty International and France Médias Monde.

In this caricature chosen by our editorial team, the French press cartoonist Placide pays tribute to the heroic gesture of the Russian journalist Marina Ovsiannikova on state television in Russia.

She had dared to brandish, in mid-March 2022, a sign calling for an end to the fighting and urging the Russians to "not believe the propaganda", in full live, on this channel where she had worked for almost 20 years.

After years of "veiling her face", she says she received "a huge shock" when the Russian authorities decided to invade Ukraine.

Since then, an NGO has organized her clandestine departure from her country at the beginning of October, when she was under house arrest, with an electronic bracelet.

Cartooning for Peace is an international network of cartoonists committed to promoting, through the universality of press cartoons, freedom of expression, human rights and mutual respect between populations of different cultures or beliefs.
