3867 earthquakes hit Syria in less than a month

The National Seismological Center in Syria announced that the number of aftershocks recorded since February 6 until today, March 3, amounted to 3867 tremors, between light and destructive.

According to the Syrian News Agency (SANA), the center indicated in its statement that 1943 tremors of magnitude 2 to 3 on the Richter scale were recorded, 1502 tremors of magnitude 3 to 4 degrees, 378 tremors of magnitude 4 to 5 degrees, 33 tremors of magnitude 5 to 6 degrees, 4 tremors of magnitude more than 6 on the Richter scale, in addition to the earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5 on the Richter scale, and the large earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 on the Richter scale, pointing out that the rest of the tremors recorded less than 2 on the Richter scale.

The center indicated that the total seismic events recorded during the 36 days from the beginning of the year 2023 until the occurrence of the great earthquake on February 6 is only 34 weak tremors, the largest of which reached a magnitude of 4.7.
