Recently, criticism has been directed at the profits of independent school groups, among other things the Social Democrats' party leader, Magdalena Andersson, has called the system "sick".

But Kunskapsskolan's owner Peje Emilsson does not take the criticism to heart.

- It has become a debate where people have exaggerated ideas about the profits and they have not realized how much money we who run schools have invested, he says in SVT's 30 minutes.

The value uninteresting

Kunskapsskolan is almost one hundred percent owned by Peje Emilsson and his family.

The school group has been valued at around one billion kroner and in the last five and a half years it has made around 400 million in profit.

- It is completely uninteresting what it is worth because it is not for sale, says Peje Emilsson, who believes that they have chosen to reinvest and not take out any dividends.

Rich "on paper"

He agrees with the description that school activities have made him very rich - but only "on paper".

According to him, the goal is always to provide the best goods and services possible, and the profit then becomes a receipt that you have succeeded.

- As I said, it's not for sale, it's nothing you realize and it's nothing you have to live on, he says.
