Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of the private Wagner militia, said Ukrainian armed forces were converging reinforcements to Bakhmut, where "tens of thousands of soldiers" in Kiev were giving rise to "fierce resistance" and "bloodshed is increasing day by day." On the Ukrainian side, the Ukrainian army would not have taken the decision to withdraw from the city of Bakhmut: a military spokesman told CNN: "If we see that the threat to our personnel and our operational situation will be greater than the need to maintain the territory, we will do it but in an organized and panic-free way," said Serhii Cherevatyi, spokesman for the Eastern Grouping of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. "Only the command sees to what extent there is a need in this situation. And then the decision on it is made at a meeting of the General Staff," he added. "I can say that at the moment there is no decision in this regard," he concluded.
