The Syrian child Sham "9 years old" and her brother Omar "15 years old", who spent 46 hours under the rubble as a result of the devastating earthquake that struck their country, began the first steps of their treatment in the UAE by performing two surgeries to confront "mashing the limbs" as a result of the interruption of blood from their legs for 4 consecutive days, within the framework of the directives of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation and Honorary President of the Emirates Red Crescent Authority "Mother of the Nation", A number of earthquake victims in Syria, including children, in state hospitals, and Her Highness covered the expenses of their treatment and all the obligations resulting from that.

In detail, Burjeel Medical City received the two Syrian brothers, Omar Washam, the day before yesterday, "Wednesday", after they were transferred to the country, where the Emirates Red Crescent, in cooperation with Burjeel Hospital, prepared a private medical plane that transported them from Turkey to Abu Dhabi, and formed a specialized medical team for «Sham» and her brother, and provided them with urgent treatment at Burjeel Medical City.

Nasser Saif Al Riyami, Chief Operating Officer at Burjeel Medical City, confirmed the stability of the condition of the Syrian girl Sham Sheikh Mohammed and her brother Omar, who were received last Wednesday morning for treatment in Abu Dhabi due to the earthquake in Syria and Turkey.

Al Riyami said: "Based on the directives of the wise leadership, the air operations of the Emirates Red Crescent, in cooperation with Burjeel Holding, began transporting the child "Sham" and her brother via a private plane from the Turkish capital, Istanbul, in a mission that lasted 12 hours that includes a medical team consisting of doctors and paramedics, and upon their arrival in the country, they were immediately transferred and their families to Burjeel Medical City, located in Mohammed Bin Zayed City in Abu Dhabi, to receive the necessary treatment and provide all forms of support for them and their families," noting that the child Sham Her brother struggled to stay under rubble in the recent earthquake in Syria for 46 hours, exposing them to limb mashing syndrome due to interrupted blood supply to the legs.

He explained that Sham and her brother will undergo several surgeries, after which a dedicated physical and psychological rehabilitation period, stressing that Burjeel Medical City has 400 beds and is ready to receive more cases based on the directives of the wise leadership to provide all forms of medical and health support to any injured by the devastating earthquake that occurred in Syria and Turkey.

While the members of the Sham and Omar families accompanying them stressed that the UAE's white hands will continue to be extended to the world with goodness and giving, expressing their appreciation and thanks to Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, Honorary President of the Emirates Red Crescent Authority "Mother of the Nation", who directed the treatment of a number of earthquake victims in Syria, including children in state hospitals, and Her Highness covered the expenses of their treatment and all the obligations resulting from that.

Bashar Aliq, cousin of Sham and Omar, who accompanied them to Abu Dhabi with 6 other family members, said: "Sham and Omar stayed for 46 hours under the rubble, during which they witnessed the death of their mother and sister, noting that the family lived on the ground floor in a 6-storey building that collapsed due to the earthquake along with many surrounding buildings, which delayed rescue teams from reaching them due to the accumulation of cement blocks resulting from the collapse of buildings.

He added: "When the rescue personnel heard the sounds of their distress, they tried as much as they could to reach them, and the first to come out of the family is their older sister and she was healthy, and she told the paramedics that her family is alive under the rubble and that her father and mother are on the other end of the building, and then attempts began to get Omar and Sham out and it took longer because of the fall of iron and stone blocks on their legs," noting that their fourth sister died shortly after the collapse of the building and they thought she had lost consciousness only, while Their mother spoke to them and asked them to help her and their father, after which she died, with injuries to the head and multiple areas of the body.
