Controversy is brewing over the contents of a web novel written in the past by candidate Jang Ye-chan, who is running for the Youth Supreme Committee of the People's Power National Convention.

The controversial novel is an article titled "Gangnam Hwata" written by Jang in 2015~2016 under the pen name "Myojae".

It is about having sex with a female character who is the protagonist to cure a terminal illness, and it is known to feature characters reminiscent of famous celebrities.

Youth Supreme Council candidate Lee Ki-in criticized the novel on his social media account today (27th) as "sexually objectifying female celebrities that everyone knows" and "obscene beyond words."

The candidate pointed out, "Web novels about each other's bodies, sharing yang qi and yin qi, and even having sex later are for viewers over 12 years old."

Referring to another web novel written by Jang, "The Color Engineer," he said, "It sexualizes female bureaucrats of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family," and "It is about a male protagonist who has the ability to be a color worker who uses his abilities to create a remote arousal and stamp it when he has to receive a difficult approval from a senior secretary of the Ministry of Leisure, Kim."

"Whether it's disciplinary action by the ethics committee or criminal punishment, it's inevitable," Lee said, urging "whether you want to step down as a candidate or the chairman of the Youth Foundation, do it for the sake of the party."

Former CEO Lee Joon-seok also posted on his social media that the web novel shows singer IU's real name, saying, "I'm sorry IU fans. Please don't hate the power of the people."

He also criticized, "I am a supporter of freedom of expression, but how can a novel about a Chinese medicine doctor who is well versed in the art of medicine and treats his illness by injecting Yang Qi can be 12 years old?"

Commenting on the controversy, candidate Jang Ye-chan retorted, "If a person dies in novels and movies, the writer becomes a murderer, and when a bed scene comes out, there is a problem with the sensitivity of sexuality?" and said, "I am proud of my history as a web novel and webtoon writer, and I will open up new territory against political prejudice against culture and art."

He also said, "It is even more ridiculous that former CEO Lee Joon-suk, who has been indicted on suspicion of sexual abuse and not anyone else, would be distracted from the content of a fantasy novel."
