World Bank estimates damage from earthquakes in Turkey over $34 billion

According to TASS with reference to the document, the damage is equivalent to 4% of Turkey's GDP in 2021.

It is specified that direct damage to residential buildings accounted for 53% ($18 billion) of the total damage.

The damage estimate does not include large-scale consequences for the Turkish economy.

Earlier, the DHA agency reported that a sinkhole up to 15 m deep was formed in a village in the Turkish province of Konya in the center of the country.

In addition, the Disaster Management Authority (AFAD) said the death toll from earthquakes in southeastern Turkey had risen to 44,218.
