On February 24, EU member states clubbed through a sanctions package that includes, among other things, tighter export restrictions for technology.

Actions are also directed at individuals and organizations that spread Russian propaganda.

The sanctions package will be the EU's tenth since Putin launched the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Torbjörn Becker, head of the East European Institute at the Stockholm School of Economics, believes that the price ceiling that has been introduced on Russian oil, together with the various sanctions against Russia, will lead to 2023 being a significantly tougher year for Russia economically.

- It will be felt much more this year, he says.
