A commercial vehicle traveling on the A5 was intercepted by the gendarmes after the toll of Eprunes at Montereau-sur-le-Jard (Seine-et-Marne). On board, the police discovered 24 Pakistani passengers, crammed into 8m2. The driver was presented in immediate appearance before the criminal court of Melun (Seine-et-Marne) three days later, reports The Republic of Seine-et-Marne.

The van was so loaded that he struggled to restart according to the gendarmes. It was this observation that led them to check the vehicle. Of the 24 people found in the back, 22 are men who arrived in France illegally. The smuggler, also Pakistani, had entered the country under the same conditions.

The man would have traveled more than 1,000 km in 14 hours between Italy and France with his passengers, crossing mountainous areas difficult to borrow by van and marking few breaks. The driver, who did not have a driving license, would have pocketed 1,000 euros to make this trip. Found guilty, he was sentenced to 18 months in prison and a permanent ban from French territory.
