'Massive' storm hits 48 US states

The US National Weather Service (NWS) announced that a "massive" storm will affect 48 states with winter weather, severe thunderstorms, and low temperatures for several days, according to a report published by Axios.

The storm will affect 75 million residents of states, including southern states, according to weather alerts on Wednesday.

NWS warned of enormous weather risks, as the states will experience remarkably extreme temperatures.

According to alerts issued by some states, California will see rain and snow, and some states will see a "rare event" punctuated by low-level snowfall, according to Axios.

The report notes that a very cold Arctic air wave coming from Canada is heading south, as temperatures will drop in Montana and Wyoming, and cold weather will settle for a long time in California.

The National Weather Service said up to 60 centimetres of snow and winds of up to 97 km/h were expected in some areas on Wednesday and Thursday, according to a Reuters report.

Wednesday's storm caused power outages in California, with interstate highways from Arizona to Wyoming closed and more than 1500,<> flights canceled, according to an Associated Press report.
