A winter storm, spreading in the western United States and heading towards the Great Plains and the Midwest the day before yesterday, is heading towards snowstorms, severe cold and record snowfall, which increases the danger of movement on roads and leads to confusion in air transport.

The National Weather Service issued winter storm and snow warnings and strong winds for large areas of the western and north-central United States. Snow is expected to reach 61 centimeters and wind speeds of up to 97 kilometers per hour in some areas so far.

Strong winds knocked out power to 163,<> California homes and businesses on Tuesday.

Traffic officials in Minnesota, Nebraska, South and North Dakota urged motorists to drive slowly or get off the roads altogether over the next two days.

Flightaware.com showed that the weather in total caused more than 1300,<> flights to be delayed or cancelled in the United States as of Tuesday afternoon.

On the other hand, the French meteorological service reported that mainland France did not see any actual rainfall for 32 days, in the longest period of precipitation entrapment ever expected to have ended yesterday, with some rain.

From January 21 to February 21, the French mainland had less than one millimeter of rain per day, the longest sequential period since measurements began in 1959, according to this general body.

This long period is also of greater concern because it occurs during winter, which is an essential period for the reconstitution of groundwater, amid an accumulated scarcity of precipitation since August 2021, and after exceptional droughts and heat waves in 2022, in a clear embodiment of the consequences of climate change.
