Bombing of Zaporozhye, siege of Mariupol or the massacre of Butcha... On February 24, as Russian tanks entered Ukrainian territory, Vladimir Putin carried out a "special military operation". A year after the start of the war, however, fighting continues to rage. And the numbers are impressive. Western sources now estimate that 30,000 to 40,000 civilians have been killed in bombings or attacks in Ukraine.

Many images have circulated on the internet and on television. Indeed, "12,000 Ukrainian and foreign journalists have been accredited" to cover the conflict in Ukraine, according to Jeanne Cavelier of Reporters Without Borders (RSF). This wide media coverage did not leave indifferent the French public like Anne-Marie Lucuet: "Civilians massacred gratuitously like that when there are no reasons, the bodies in the street [...] What do you mean? It hurts." On the occasion of the anniversary of the conflict, 20 Minutes went to meet the French men and women to learn about the events that have remained in their memory.
