Military Industry Attracts University Students at IDEX

Minister of State for Defense Affairs Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Bowardi said in a statement on the sidelines of IDEX 2023, which is currently being held in Abu Dhabi, that IDEX is a successful Emirati industry by all standards.

The second day of IDEX and NAVDEX witnessed a large number of visitors, as the corridors of the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre were crowded with people and official delegations coming to see the latest technologies, equipment and products displayed by international companies.

Khalifa University of Science and Technology showcased a range of advanced technological innovations in the field of defense developed by a group of members of the Elite National Service Program, during its participation in IDEX 2023.

Khalifa University showcased several new technologies for security and defense, including drones, mobile robots, technologies related to energy collection and voice encoding.

Dr. Arif Sultan Al Hammadi, Executive Vice President at Khalifa University, said that the university's participation this year in the event confirms the level of technological progress reached by students at the university in the development of robots and drones, as well as the development of human capital through the elite program.

The Elite National Service Program aims to build qualified national cadres who work effectively in advanced scientific and technological fields that include robotics and drones.

Khalifa University's portfolio of innovations includes a multi-purpose autonomous mobile robot system for automated flight applications, a precision and secure flight system based on a set of reduced computer instructions, an energy collection system for mobile power devices, a voice coding system based on a field programmable gate array, an electronic cyber security training range, a fully rounded intelligent autonomous drone and a range of marine robotic solutions in the field of security.

The Abu Dhabi Vocational Education and Training Institute (ADVETI), part of the Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ACTVET), also showcased three innovative projects for its students during its participation in the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX 2023).

The three projects are a firefighting drone project, an integrated remote fire response project consisting of a vehicle equipped with a wireless radar system, a night vision camera and an advanced stair climbing system, and an automatic car wash system project.

The Director General of ADVETI, Dr. Abdulrahman Jassim Al Hammadi, said that ADVETI is showcasing the various distinguished technical and vocational programs offered by Al Jazeera Institute of Science and Technology in Abu Dhabi, Al Jahili Institute of Science and Technology in Al Ain, Baynunah Institute of Science and Technology in Al Dhafra Region, and Vocational Education and Development Center in Al Shahama in Abu Dhabi.

HALCON, EDGE's regional leader in the design and production of guided weapons and other systems, announced the signing of a AED 2.14 billion contract with the UAE Armed Forces to supply short-range guided munition systems.

Under the new contract, the UAE Armed Forces will receive Thunder P3 Light precision-guided munitions from Halcon.

This munition is designed to be integrated with the MK range and will be equipped with semi-active laser mode guidance.

Lockheed Martin has partnered with four companies operating in the GCC to provide instrumentation, calibration and maintenance services for the company's aircraft ground support equipment, including Spectrum (a subsidiary of Edge Group), Mohammed Abdulrahman Al-Bahar (Al-Bahar Group), Arab Cal and TLD MEAI (a subsidiary of Alvest Group), which in turn will contribute to improving equipment sustainability operations in the region by reducing implementation times and costs for U.S. forces and their allies operating in the Gulf.

EDGE's leading small arms manufacturer Caracal has signed a licensing agreement with India's ICOMM, a leading developer and manufacturer of missiles and their subsystems, communications and electronic warfare systems, electro-optics, shelters and vehicles, as well as technology for other systems, such as drones and anti-drone systems.

«Fairy» Emirati plane carries out combat missions

Hidden from the radar, ADASI, a subsidiary of the EDGE Group, displayed during its participation in IDEX 2023 the "Fairy" aircraft, an Emirati unmanned aircraft, reaching a speed of more than 1000,<> kilometers per hour, which is not detected by radar or tracked, and carries out air combat operations with land and sea support, and it is manufactured in the UAE by experts and technicians from the UAE nationals.

The aircraft is 10.5 meters long, six and a half meters wide, and can carry ammunition weighing 480 kilograms (about half a ton).

According to ADASI, the Fairy unmanned combat aerial vehicle provides an autonomous and technologically superior means of carrying out a wide range of military operations, with a high payload and wide range, as well as its ability to operate at high speed, and displays alongside the vehicle a ground control station designed to monitor and guide the system.
