A fire broke out in an oil and grease factory in the new industrial area in Ajman, yesterday, damaged the factory, a printing press and a warehouse for ready-made clothes. The fire caused varying damage to nine shops and a two-storey apartment building. It also destroyed 39 cars parked next to the road.

Ajman Civil Defense teams, with the support and backing of regional departments in Dubai, Sharjah and um Al Quwain, were able to control the fire, which resulted in five injuries.

The Commander-in-Chief of Ajman Police, Major General Sheikh Sultan bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, said that the operations room received a report of the outbreak of the fire at three in the morning, so police patrols and civil defense teams moved from three centers to the site of the incident. Support was also sought from neighbouring UAE centres in Dubai, Sharjah and um Al Quwain to secure the site, as well as National Ambulances, Etihad Electricity and Water Company, Municipality and Planning Department and the Red Crescent.

He said that the competent teams began evacuation and firefighting operations, and the plan for serious fires in dangerous sites was activated.

He explained that the leakage and spread of oils enhanced the speed of ignition and the arrival of the fire to neighboring buildings.

Civil Defense Director General Colonel Raed Obaid al-Zaabi said that civil defence teams were able to put out the fire and conduct cooling operations, adding that the police took over the site in preparation for procedures to investigate the causes of the fire.

The Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department at the General Command of Ajman Police, Lieutenant Colonel Saif Abdullah Al Falasi, told Emirates Today that "the fire did not cause a traffic crisis, as it is far from residential areas, but the department took urgent action to avoid any possible congestion, and to make it easier for the civil defense teams to do their job," pointing to the work of a traffic diversion near the fire site. Fire in a residential tower The teams of the General Directorate of Ajman Civil Defense and Ajman Police managed to deal with a fire in one of the towers of the "Pearl" residential complex in the "Rashidiya 1" area.

The Commander-in-Chief of Ajman Police, Major General Sheikh Sultan bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, said that the police and civil defense forces were able to evacuate the tower from residents, control the fire, and extinguish it completely.

He added that the fire caused the external façade of the tower to ignite unilaterally, and reached a number of apartments, resulting in nine cases of suffocation.
