A 90-year-old woman was tried on Monday before the criminal court of Fontainebleau (Seine-et-Marne) for manslaughter. In question: a traffic accident that it caused on July 5, 2022, reports The Republic of Seine-et-Marne.

That day, the pensioner hit an 81-year-old man with her car on a pedestrian crossing. The victim died a few hours later from head trauma. According to witnesses, the "very violent" impact occurred after the driver swerved to avoid a first pedestrian.

The licence definitively cancelled

At the hearing, her lawyer recalled that the defendant had never been involved in an accident in 64 years of driving license. He also cited glaucoma in his eye that could have impaired his vision.

However, a medical examination contradicted this possible mitigating circumstance. Following the prosecution's requests, the court finally sentenced the nonagenarian to a definitive cancellation of her driving licence.
