"Fifteen illegal immigrants took control of a Turkish ship off Naples, kidnapping 22 crew members. The Italian special forces stationed in Brindisi intervened, regained control of the ship. Now the crew must be freed and the ship secured." This was stated by the Minister of Defense Guido Crosetto, during his speech at the 'Forum in Masseria' in Manduria. The minister spoke of "15 illegal immigrants, 2 or 3 armed".

The intervention of the San Marco Battalion restored order on a Turkish ferry bound for France, seized by 15 illegal immigrants on the island of Ischia. The special forces, who arrived with two helicopters, neutralized the 15 illegal immigrants, who had hidden on the ship, regaining control of the boat. "The operation is still ongoing, the men of the San Marco Battalion distance in Brindisi are still clearing", explains the Minister of Defense Guido Crosetto.

"On the hijackers we know that they are illegal immigrants who boarded a Turkish ship and using weapons, such as daggers but we have not yet managed to capture them so we are not sure, they have taken possession of the ship. The San Marco battalion had to intervene. The ship has now been recovered but not yet secured because those who had occupied it are locked inside". So the Minister of Defense: "We hope that it ends as soon as possible without consequences for anyone".
