Marburg is a serious illness closely associated with the Ebola virus that can kill up to 88 percent of infected people, and is often fatal, appearing suddenly with a high fever and severe headache and malaise and many with severe bleeding symptoms within seven days.

The virus is transmitted from fruit bats and spreads between humans through direct contact with infected people's bodily fluids, surfaces and materials.
