A man in his 60s has been fined for stealing bicycles from junior high school students who were parked near the school while they were in school.

Today (8th), Chuncheonji Law's Wonju-won Criminal Division 2 (Presiding Judge Park Hyun-jin) announced that it sentenced Mr. A (63), who was charged with theft, to a fine of 250.9 million won.

Mr. A is accused of loading two bicycles worth 13,10 won into the luggage compartment of a truck parked on a road near a junior high school in Wonju City at around 40 a.m. on September 2 last year.

At that time, it turned out that the bicycles stolen by Mr. A were parked by junior high school students who had gone to school on the day of the incident, and they were all locked.

However, Mr. A stole the entire locked bicycle, which was captured on the nearby CCTV.

Accordingly, Mr. A, who was brought to court, claimed that he did not deliberately steal the bike, saying, "I took it thinking it was an abandoned bicycle."

However, the court did not accept Mr. A's argument, saying, "Some of the stolen bicycles were 2021 model years, which were not only locked, but were also in good enough condition to be ridden until only 1~2 hours ago," and "it appears that they stole them even though they knew that they were not abandoned."

"It is unfavorable for a student to steal a locked bicycle during class and then deny committing the crime."

However, the court stated the reason for the sentencing, saying, "We have recovered all the damages and have taken into account the fact that we have agreed or agreed with the victims or paid them cash."
